A Baltimore County video game developer agreed to pay $75,000 in a settlement after it was accused by an industry trade group of using illegal copies of commercial software products.

The Business Software Alliance, which represents the commercial software industry, alleged that Hunt Valley-based BreakAway Ltd., which makes video games for entertainment and training for businesses and the military, and footwear company Aetrex Worldwide Inc. used unlicensed copies of Microsoft and Adobe software. Aetrex, which is based in Teaneck, N.J., agreed to pay $100,000 as part of it settlement with the BSA.

As part of their agreements, BreakAway and Aetrex agreed to delete all unlicensed copies of software from their computers, the BSA said. The BSA said it was alerted to the illegal software usage at both companies via confidential reports made through its Web site, www.nopiracy.com. Officials at BreakAway could not be reached for comment.
