Apartment building developed by Wendell Pierce to open in April

Actor Wendell Piece, star of “The Wire,” announced the grand opening of his new apartment complex called The Nelson Kohl Apartments in Station North will be early next month.

In a tweet, he said, “Grand Opening of The Nelson Kohl Apartments 20 E. Lanvale. April 6th 11:30am. Come and join me as we cut the ribbon!!!”

In another tweet about it Thursday, Pierce noted it was the 10th anniversary of “The Wire.”

Pierce is a partner with Ernst Valery’s SAA | EVI Development in the $20 million, 103-unit complex and has said he hopes it’s the first of many Baltimore projects for him. He specifically said he’d like to build in West Baltimore, to give the area a boost.

The new apartments were built on a former parking lot overlooking Penn Station and Pierce said he hoped to keep the prices affordable for a mix of renters.

A website for the property, www.nelsonkohl.com, shows units ranging from studios starting at $1,195 a month to 2-bedroom units starting at $2,145.

Pierce also has built houses in New Orleans.
