Wegmans adds curbside pickup at five Maryland stores

Wegmans has rolled out curbside pickup at five Maryland stores.

Customers can order groceries online and pick them up at locations in Columbia, Crofton, Owings Mills, Germantown and Woodmore. The minimum order is $10.

The grocer is offering the new service in partnership with Instacart, which also handles its delivery service.

To cover the cost of shopping for orders and Instacart services, Wegmans adds a price increase to items to be picked up or delivered.

Shoppers can access the service through the instacart.wegmans.com website or through the Instacart app, where they can shop, choose a pickup time and pay for orders. Notifications are sent when the order is ready.

At the store, customers pull into the curbside pickup lane, notify the store of their arrival and wait for a Wegmans employee to load their groceries.

Curbside pickup has become a popular offering from grocers and other retailers. Last month, Walmart said it will expand its grocery pickup option to more than 10 stores in Maryland by the end of the year. It offers pickup service for free, but orders must be at least $30.

Wegmans also offers delivery, also through Instacart, throughout it’s six-state footprint. Delivery service starts at $3.99 and is free for Instacart Express Members on orders of $35 or more.
