Wawa stores in Maryland and five other states started offering free Wi-Fi through a collaboration with Comcast.
Free Wi-Fi will be available at the convenience chain's 700 stores in Maryland, Delaware, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Comcast Business' Enterprise Solutions unit installed the managed public/private network, along with managed broadband.
Customers can access Xfinity Wi-Fi by logging on to the "xfinitywifi" SSID in the list of available networks, and there is no charge. It will also offer private access for Wawa associates and vendors.
Wawa, a privately held company, said the move is part of becoming a one-stop-shop for consumers and using technology to improve the in-store experience.
