American bobsledders struck fierce poses for photographers Tuesday as they arrived in Baltimore to model the speed suits they will wear in the Winter Olympics in South Korea next month.

One Olympic veteran, Chris Fogt, said the suits — designed by Under Armour — are less “superhero” this year and more Americana.

“My first year we looked like Captain America,” said Fogt, a U.S. Army captain who will be competing in his third Olympics. “I actually wore that as a costume with a mask and a little shield and the speed suit from 2010 for Halloween.

The 2010 design, which included graphic stars and stripes, was “more superhero,” Fogt said. “The one now is classier. It looks very, very good.”

Under Armour says it has signed its first deal to partner with a national Olympic committee – Team Canada.

Team members worked out Tuesday at Under Armour headquarters and modeled the tighter-than-tight, red, white and blue suits with “USA” next to the company’s logo.

Lauren Gibbs, who will be appearing in her first Olympics and competing in the two-person bobsled event, said the suits “have to be aerodynamic.”

“You want to make sure you’re wearing a fabric that’s tight enough, that’s not flapping in the wind,” Gibbs said. “I’m a volleyball player so I like Lycra and Spandex. It’s win-win for me.”

Under Armour is also supplying competition suits for the American speed skating team and the Nigerian bobsled team.

Lindsey Vonn, a veteran Olympic skier, is a longtime Under Armour endorser.

Ralph Lauren is the Team USA outfitter for opening ceremonies on Feb. 9 and will supply red, white and blue parkas.

Under Armour hopes you notice the cleats in Sunday’s NFL championship games. The Baltimore company says the starting quarterbacks will wear its brand.

Under Armour’s kit for the bobsled teams also includes a warmup suit, sneakers and a parka.

The speed suits have been revised over the years. This year’s suit has a welcome addition.

“The zipper is longer, which is nice when you have to use the restroom,” Fogt said. “If you’re in a race and your zipper is up to here, you have to take your whole suit off. It’s a bit of a distraction.”
