TierPoint expands Baltimore data center

TierPoint LLC has completed an expansion and upgrade of its Baltimore data center, part of $45 million in expansions this year across its network of 39 U.S. data centers.

TierPoint said it added 3,000 square feet to its 30,000-square-foot facility, located near M&T Bank Stadium, as well as established an uninterrupted power supply for the site. It described the facility as one of the largest carrier-neutral data centers in the state.

The Baltimore expansion is the smaller of two TierPoint said it completed at a cost of $13 million. The other added 12,500 square feet to a center in Marlborough, Mass., bringin it to 215,000 square feet.

TierPoint said it already is considering further expansion in the Baltimore market in 2017, citing strong demand for the newly expanded server space.

The expansions, the St. Louis-based company said, improve its capacity for cloud, colocation, disaster recovery and data security services.
