Two medical care companies — one for pets, one for people — are each receiving $100,000 awards from a corporation set up by the state to bring new technologies to the marketplace, according to a release from the Howard County Economic Development Authority.
Vitus Vet and Vheda Health, both now based at the Maryland Center for Entrepreneurship, will receive the awards from the Maryland Technology Development Corporation. Vitus Vet is creating software that allows veterinarians to share records with other veterinarians and pet owners. Vheda Health works with health plans and employers to manage treatment for chronically ill patients outside of a hospital, at less cost, using video visits and remote monitoring.
The Howard County Economic Development Authority is a hybrid public/private agency that runs the incubator housing both companies. The Maryland Technology Development Corporation is independent, created by the Maryland General Assembly in 1998 to help develop technology-based businesses.
