The Baltimore Sun Media Group named new publishers Friday for its newspapers in Anne Arundel and Carroll counties.

Trish McCarthy Carroll, previously the Sun's senior vice president for customer engagement, will become publisher of the Carroll County Times, overseeing the newspaper and related publications.

The appointments were announced by Timothy E. Ryan, publisher and chief executive officer for the Baltimore Sun Media Group, which owns the publications.

Thomas and Carroll replace Pat Richardson, who had been publisher of Capital-Gazette Communications since January 2013 and of the Carroll County Times portfolio since April 2007.

On Friday, Richardson was named publisher of The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Va., and president of Pilot Media.

The Sun acquired Capital-Gazette and the Carroll County paper for $29 million in May from Landmark Media Enterprises LLC, which also owns the Pilot, according to Securites and Exchange Commission documents.

Baltimore Sun Media Group is owned by Tribune Publishing, which became an independent company in August.
