STX launches new ice hockey stick

Baltimore-based sporting goods manufacturer STX, which expanded into ice hockey last year, said today it has launched a new stick to be sold in stores after being used by a pair of NHL players during the regular season.

STX said the "Surgeon Rx" has a light design and the blade has "a softer face for more responsive control on the ice."

Brandon Pirri of the Florida Panthers and Jiri Hudler of the Calgary Flames started using the stick in the second half of the season, the company said. The new stick is also designed for senior, intermediate, junior and youth players and ranges in recommended price from $65 for a youth stick to $230 for a senior stick.

Athletes associate STX with lacrosse, but the brand began selling ice hockey sticks in 2014. The company's hockey products also include gloves, shin guards and elbow and shoulder pads.

STX also makes field hockey sticks and a line of golf putters, as well as its lacrosse products.
