Startup Maryland announces 2016 bus tour dates, stops

Maryland's entrepreneurship bus tour hits the road Sept. 10 for a nearly month-long trip through the state.

Startup Maryland, a entrepreneurship support organization, on Monday announced 24 stops for its fifth annual entrepreneurship tour, called the STRT1UP Road Show.

The tour includes the organization's signature Pitch Across Maryland business contest. In a small recording area aboard Startup Maryland's tour bus, companies can record brief business pitches. The videos are uploaded to the organization's YouTube site, where viewers can vote for their favorite.

In addition to the pitch contest, each stop is an entrepreneurship party of sorts, with other businesses, startup mentors, incubator leaders.

The goal of the tour is to bring together entrepreneurs and the resources in their community that can help them grow business, said Startup Maryland Founder and CEO Mike Binko.

"We can't help everybody at Startup Maryland," Binko said. "That's why the ecosystem efforts that we celebrate and encourage are important."

Some stops will include a viewing of Startup Maryland's documentary of their past tours, called STRT1UP, which is also the tour bus' license plate.

The tour kicks off Sept. 10 at Washington College. In Baltimore, the bus will make stops toward the end of September at Spark, City Garage and the Mt. Royal Block Party.
