Spirit Airlines is now offering daily service to Cancun from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, the airline announced Thursday.
The new route is the low-cost, Florida-based airline’s first international flight available at BWI, which it announced along with new service to Cancun from Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Those routes join Spirit’s other flights to Cancun from Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale and Houston.
Prices listed on Spirit.com ranged from $95.58 to $375.58, with some $71.29 flights available through the airline’s “$9 Fare Club” membership, which costs passengers $59.95 to enroll.
"This is an exciting milestone for our network," Mark Kopczak, Spirit's vice president of network planning, said in a statement. "Cancun is one of our most-requested destinations, so it's only fitting it has become our first international destination from Chicago and Baltimore/Washington. We look forward to bringing more service to Cancun and other international destinations in the months ahead."
Ricky Smith, executive director of the Maryland Aviation Administration and CEO of BWI Marshall Airport, said the new service “boosts travel value for our passengers.”
"We welcome the announcement that Spirit Airlines will bring new international flight options and more ultra-low fares for our travelers," Smith said in a statement.
