Tradepoint Atlantic, the owner of the industrial park being developed on the site of the former Bethlehem Steel plant in Sparrows Point, is looking for hotel and retail tenants.
The firm wants to create a 130-acre shopping center, starting with 150,000 square feet of retail space with two hotels and seven retail spots. The hope is to build amenities for the employees of the other businesses expected to occupy the site. The Shoppes at Tradepoint Atlantic also would have room for another 150,000 square feet of retail.
The firm, which started discussing the plans last year, is targeting tenants such as a gas station, a 50,000-square-foot grocery store, a gym and fast-food restaurants.
Tradepoint does not have a timeline for the project, which will depend on leasing, said Aaron Tomarchio, Tradepoint's vice president of corporate affairs. He declined to disclose the estimated cost.
The firm is working with environmental regulators on a heightened clean-up plan for that part of the site, Tomarchio said.
