Sinclair Broadcast Group makes Fortune 1000 list for first time

Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. cracked the Fortune 1000 list for the first time, the Hunt Valley-based television station owner said Wednesday.

The broadcaster ranked 913th on Fortune Magazine's annual list of the 1,000 largest companies based on annual revenue.


Under Armour, the Baltimore-based athletic-apparel maker, was the biggest mover among Maryland firms, jumping to 597th with 28.5 percent revenue growth, to $3.96 billion last year.

The Fortune 500 rankings, announced this month and led by Walmart, Exxon Mobil and Apple, included four Maryland companies: No. 60 Lockheed Martin, No. 195 Marriott International and No. 472 Host Hotels & Resorts, all based in Bethesda, and No. 406 Discovery Communications, based in Silver Spring.


Other Baltimore-area firms on the Fortune 1000 include:

•Sparks-based spice maker McCormick & Co., which moved up to the 567th spot with $4.29 billion in sales.

•Baltimore mutual fund manager T. Rowe Price Group Inc., at 573 with $4.2 billion in revenues.

•industrial machinery maker Colfax, based in Annapolis Junction, with $3.96 billion in sales, ranked 596th.

•Columbia-based chemicals company W.R. Grace ranked 717th with $3.05 billion in revenue;

•Baltimore-based money management firm Legg Mason was No. 768 with $2.82 billion in revenue.

•Hanover-based technology business Ciena, No. 854, had $2.45 billion in sales.

Sinclair, one of the nation's largest broadcasters, which owns, operates or provides services to 173 TV stations in 81 markets, reported revenue of $2.2 billion last year. It was among three TV broadcasters on this year's list.
