Santander Bank says it's closing all 10 of its Maryland branches.
Nancy Orlando, a bank spokeswoman, told The Herald-Mail in Hagerstown on Tuesday that the Spanish-owned bank will close the branches in the next several months. She said customers can continue to bank with Santander online.
Orlando says the move is part of a strategy for growth in the company's core markets. Santander's Baltimore-area branches are located in Bel Air and Forest Hill in Harford County and Parkton in Baltimore County. Other branches are in Frederick, Montgomery and Washington counties.
The company acquired at least some of the branches with its 2009 acquisition of Sovereign Bank.
Santander Bank is a Boston-based unit of Banco Santander S.A., based in Madrid.
