The Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel said Thursday it has finished a $4.5 million upgrade, with renovations to its event and meeting space and restaurants.

The Renaissance, located on Pratt Street in the Inner Harbor, is one of the Marriott flags. The updates in the 620-room hotel included a new color scheme, new furnishings and other changes to its three ballrooms and 21 meeting rooms, which are flexible and can be combined to hosts events of varying sizes.

The investment comes at the start of the critical summer travel season and as Baltimore's hotel market mends after a disappointing 2015.

Occupancy rates in the region increased 1.4 percent from 2015, hitting 63.5 percent for the first four months of the year, according to STR Inc., a hospitality research firm.
