Perdue Farms names new CEO

The Baltimore Sun

Jim Perdue has stepped aside as CEO of Perdue Farms, promoting Randy Day to become the second nonfamily member to lead the Salisbury-based poultry company.

Perdue, who has been CEO since 1991, will remain as the company's chairman and brand spokesman.

An Eastern Shore native, Day has been with Perdue Farms since 1980, holding numerous positions, including president of Perdue Foods and, most recently, chief operating officer since last May. He also will join the board of directors.

"He has proven himself to be a business leader who understands the importance of disciplined execution of our strategies and attention to competitive position and financial stewardship," Perdue said in a statement. "He has a deep respect for — and lives — our values. Randy embraces and drives change, and will provide the strategic leadership to make sure Perdue Farms remains innovative, relevant and trusted as we move into our next century."

Perdue Farms was founded by Jim Perdue's grandfather, Arthur Perdue, in 1920. His father, Frank, took over the company in the 1950s and built it into the business it is today.
