Contents of Mount Vernon hotel to be sold

Baltimore, MD -- The contents of George's on Mount Vernon Square will be sold off along with the inventory of the Peabody Court Wyndham after the hotel closed for an extensive renovation under new owners. (Karl Merton Ferron / Baltimore Sun)

If you're in the market for a marble-topped table, a plush striped arm chair or commercial laundry equipment — and you don't mind a little use — you're in luck: the contents of a hotel in Mount Vernon as well as George's restaurant on its ground floor will be sold in a giant, three-week garage sale starting Thursday.

The former Peabody Court Wyndham closed at the end of June, after it was purchased by a new owner last year. California-based Commune Hotels + Resorts expects to reopen the historic Cathedral Street building as a new hotel in early 2017, after a major renovation.

Ohio-based International Content Liquidations swept into town last week to handle the liquidation of the inventory, which includes more than 1,000 items such as lamps, barstools, kitchen equipment, televisions, engravings, lithographs, bureaus, beds, fixtures, paneling and mantels, said Claudia G. Miller, who leads business development for the family-owned company.

The firm will open the sale to the public by floor, with many of the premier items featured first.

Asked what happens to the remainders, Miller laughed.

"We don't have that problem," she said.
