The Peabody Brewery in the Abell neighborhood of Baltimore plans to buy its building and double its production this year with the help of a state loan set to be approved by the Board of Public Works on Wednesday.
The brewery is run as a co-op, with small local brewers using the space to produce beers like Raven Beer, Public Works' Red Cent Amber and Full Tilt's Baltimore Pale Ale. The brewery is expanding its manufacturing capacity and adding equipment, moves expected to increase production from 11,500 barrels in 2014 to 25,000 in 2015 and 50,000 barrels in 2016.
The $500,000 loan set to be voted on by the Board of Public Works this week comes from the state's Department of Housing and Community Development. Along with a $675,000 loan from Howard Bank, the money will help the brewer to purchase the building at 401 E. 30th St. it rents.
"We're invested in the neighborhood long term," said Hollis Albert, the brewery's general manager.
