Eco-friendly online retailer Bambeco and cybersecurity firm RedOwl Analytics were among the Baltimore-area firms that netted millions in new venture capital between July and September, according to a report released Friday.
In all, venture capitalists invested $144 million in 24 deals with Maryland firms in the third quarter of this year, according to the report by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association, which uses data from Thomson Reuters.
The $144 million was the largest amount of investment since 2013. Bambeco, which sells sustainable furniture and housewares, netted $20.5 million in expansion investment from ABS Capital Partners and an undisclosed firm. Venture capitalists have invested in Bambeco previously.
RedOwl, which analyzes the web for potential insider threats, also had Allegis Capital, the Blackstone Group and an undisclosed firm invest $17.4 million in its expansion.
Sagamore Ventures and an undisclosed firm also pumped $5 million into salad dressing maker Tessemae's.
Camber Creek, the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development and an undisclosed firm invested $3.5 million in 6th STREET Inc., which offers SalesWarp, a commerce management system.
