Baltimore County officials gathered at the Metro Centre of Owings Mills on Thursday to mark the opening of the transit-oriented development's first luxury apartment buildings.

The Metro Crossing apartments feature 232 units and amenities such as a fitness center and rooftop pool with barbecues. There are one- and two-bedroom floor plans ranging from 700 to 1,245 square feet, with rents starting at $1,580 a month.

The ground floors of the two apartment buildings will be occupied by retail.

Eventually, the development next to the Metro station is scheduled to include 1,700 residential units, more than 1 million square feet of offices, and 300,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
