Baltimore-area Macy’s department stores are not among 37 locations the retailer will close this year, but one Maryland store, in Marlow Heights, is slated for closure.
The Marlow Heights store in Prince George’s County is among 31 Macy’s and one Bloomingdale’s the retailer identified Wednesday for closure. Another five Macy’s on the closing list had been announced previously.
“After careful consideration, Macy’s has decided to close our Marlow Heights location” which had been in business for 60 years, Macy’s said in a statement. “This closure is part of the company’s strategy announced in early 2020.”
Macy’s Inc. had announced plans in February to shutter about 125 stores in lower-tier malls over three years, while keeping stores in better performing malls and exploring new formats.
Macy’s operates six stores in the Baltimore area, including at Annapolis Mall, Marley Station in Glen Burnie, The Mall in Columbia, Security Square Mall, White Marsh Mall and Towson Town Center.
