Loyola University's business school honors Brown Advisory's Michael Hankin

Michael D. Hankin, the president and CEO of Brown Advisory, was named Business Leader of the Year for 2017 by Loyola University’s Sellinger School of Business and Management.

The award, given tonight at a dinner at the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel, honors business executives who embody Loyola’s Jesuit commitment to community and service in the leadership of their organization.

“Mike Hankin leads a firm that prides itself on thoughtfulness, a value we hold deeply as a Jesuit university that emphasizes thoughtful, ethical leadership,” said Kathleen A. Getz, dean of the Sellinger School. “This approach also overflows into Mike’s work in the Baltimore community, where he is actively involved in efforts to improve the health of both residents and Baltimore’s Inner Harbor.”

In addition to leading Brown Advisory since 1998, Hankin serves in leadership roles for multiple nonprofits, including Johns Hopkins University, the Chesapeake Conservancy and the Baltimore Waterfront Partnership and Management Authority. He also serves as director for the National Steeplechase Association.

He also serves on the boards of directors for Stanley Black & Decker and two private companies, Tate Engineering Services and The Wills Group.

Hankin was graduated from Emory University in 1979 with bachelor’s and master’s degrees and earned a law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1982.
