The Maryland Insurance Administration has sued a bail bonds business that it shut down last month, saying the company has put its website back on the Internet in defiance and is seeking customers.
The state revoked the license of the owner of Frederick-based Hard Knocks Bail Bonds in 2012 after discovering he had lied about criminal convictions on his license application, a violation of state law. The company also had "numerous" complaints filed against it and the state determined it owed thousands of dollars in restitution to clients.
Hard Knocks Bail Bonds, Hard Knocks Bail Bonds Co., and AAAA U Got Bail Bonds, all had their licenses revoked in 2014 for violations of the state's insurance laws, MIA officials said. The businesses operated in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Prince George's and Frederick counties.
In late March, the Frederick County Circuit Court issued a temporary restraining order, at the request of the MIA, to take down the company's website. The order expired on Thursday and an extension is pending, but Hard Knocks has put its site back on the Internet, MIA officials said Friday.
