Construction will begin this fall on the new Hammerjacks nightclub and concert venue in Baltimore.

The club will replace the former Paradox nightclub on 1300 Russell St., near M&T Bank Stadium. The venue is expected to open in 2017.

The $10 million project calls for a partial demolition of the space, to make room for a 29,000-square-foot concert venue. About 24,000 square feet of the existing venue will be renovated.

The project also will add an outdoor courtyard and retail space.

Morgan-Keller Construction is the project's general contractor and construction manager. Baltimore design firm Design Collective is working on the project too.

First opened in 1977, Hammerjacks became well known in the 1980s and closed in 1997 to make way for Camden Yards parking. A second iteration of the club operated on Guilford Avenue from 2000 to 2006.

Kevin Butler, the president and CEO of Hammerjacks Entertainment Group, secured the trademark for $1,000 in 2011.

Paradox announced last year it would close in 2016 after 25 years in business.
