Global Food store to open Thursday in Woodlawn

Global Food, a Virginia-based grocer specializing in international food, will open its first Baltimore-area store Thursday in Woodlawn.

The Sterling, Virginia-based regional chain had signed a lease in 2021 for more than 36,000 square feet in a former Price Rite in Meadows Shopping Center at Security Boulevard and Woodlawn Drive. The center, owned since 2006 by Atlantic Realty Cos., is located in a Baltimore County enterprise and commercial revitalization zone.

Other tenants include dd’s Discounts, Family Dollar and McDonald’s.

Global Food sells international items, such as Asian, Indian, Latin, Middle Eastern and European food, as well as American food. An official with Supermax Enterprises, the grocery stores’ owner, had said the grocer chose Woodlawn to launch its Baltimore-area expansion because of visibility from Interstate 695 and proximity to a diverse population.

The family-owned regional chain operates two stores in Maryland’s Washington suburbs, in Silver Spring and Oxen Hill. In Northern Virginia, it runs stores in Alexandria, Manassas and Woodbridge.

Commercial real estate brokerage KLNB, which handles leasing for Atlantic Realty, said a grand opening ceremony is planned for Thursday at the new store. Officials including Baltimore County Executive John Olszewski Jr.; John Kim, owner of Global Food; and David Ross, owner of Atlantic Realty, are expected to attend.
