Maryland businesses exported $12.2 billion in goods last year, a roughly 4.1 percent increase from 2013, the state Department of Business and Economic Development said Thursday.
Maryland was one of 26 states to reach record levels of merchandise exports in 2014, according to data released last month by the International Trade Administration. Nationally, the U.S. exported $1.6 trillion in goods in 2014, an increase of 2.7 percent.
Maryland's biggest export was transportation equipment, which represented $3.5 billion in trade, followed by $2.2 billion in chemicals and $1.6 billion in computer and electronic products.
Top markets included Canada, which received $1.9 billion in goods and services, Saudi Arabia and China.
