Duane Morris names new leader for Baltimore office

Law firm Duane Morris LLC announced a change in management in its Baltimore office Friday, a day after two of the firm's partners resigned.

George Nemphos, who had been managing partner of the Baltimore office and chair of the national firm's Global Corporate Practice Group, resigned, effective Thursday, along with Jay G. Cohen, also a partner, the firm said Friday.

Robert B. Hopkins, who joined Duane Morris in 2008, was named managing partner of the Baltimore office. Attorney Brian P. Kerwin stepped in to head the corporate practice group from Duane Morris' Chicago office.

Both Nemphos and Cohen were named, along with the firm, in a lawsuit that Laurel entrepreneur Angela Singleton filed earlier this month in Baltimore Circuit Court seeking more than $10 million. Singleton, who invented a shoe insert to make women's high heels comfortable, alleges in the lawsuit that the two partners misled her into giving up control of a company called Pique that eventually failed.

Neither Nemphos nor Cohen returned calls Friday. Joshua M. Peck, a spokesman for Duane Morris, had no comment on the lawsuit.
