Unitec, an Elkridge firm that makes machines that collect payments at car wash stations, has been purchased by an Ohio company.
DRB Systems, which is based in Akron and also focuses on technology for the automated car wash industry, announced the deal Monday. Terms were not disclosed.
Executives said in a news release that the deal will allow them to offer more services to their customers and tap into distribution networks. Together the businesses, longtime collaborators, will have almost 300 employees and serve more than 14,000 car washes.
"Officially, DRB Systems has acquired Unitec, but the deal is just the tip of the iceberg," said DRB Systems President and CEO Bill Morgenstern. "Together, DRB and Unitec will deliver the power and energy to continue leading our industry, but now with the combined strength of these two premier providers working in concert with each other to serve our customers' needs.
Unitec was founded in 1983 and announced plans to expand in Australia this year.
