Constellation finalizes acquisition of ConEdison Solutions' retail energy business

Constellation has finalized its acquisition of Consolidated Edison Solutions' retail electricity and natural gas business.

Through the deal, announced in July, Constellation gains 560,000 commercial, industrial, public sector and residential customers in 13 states and the District of Columbia.

"This purchase aligns with our generation-to-load matching strategy and provides the opportunity for additional growth in strategically attractive markets," said Constellation CEO Joseph Nigro in a statement.

Following the deal, Constellation, an Exelon Corp. company, has about 2.5 million residential and business customers.

Eighty-five ConEdison Solutions employees will join Constellation.

Shedding its retail electricity and natural gas business allows ConEdison Solutions, a subsidiary of New York-based Consolidated Edison Inc., to focus on renewable energy, sustainability services and energy efficiency.
