The owners of Baltimore-based retailer Charm City Run are buying Frederick running store If The Shoe Fits.

Charm City Run, a running and walking specialty store started by Josh and Kara Levinson in Timonium in 2002, now has five locations, which, besides Timonium, include Annapolis, Bel Air, Columbia and McHenry Row in Locust Point. Charm City Run Events manages, directs and times more than 90 sports endurance events a year.

If the Shoe Fits also opened in 2002 and specializes in running, walking and triathlon footwear and gear. Store owner John Kippen, who started the business to combine a love for running with 18 years of retail experience, is retiring.

"It became apparent that if If The Shoe Fits could logically become a part of Charm City Run, a community-focused running store, there would be a healthy transition when it was time for me to retire," Kippen said in the retailers' announcement Tuesday.

The Frederick store will change hands as of Jan. 1, with its current general manager, John Leon, staying on in that role. The sale price was not disclosed.
