Maryland Live's August revenue spiked 64 percent compared with a year earlier, a nearly $21 million increase in a month that saw the debut of the casino's 52-table poker room, the state said Thursday.
The Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency also said the Hollywood Casino Perryville's August revenue rose about 18 percent to roughly $7.7 million. It was the Cecil County facility's second straight month of year-over-year increases after decreasing in recent months — even in March, when it launched its 22 table games. Perryville has 1,158 slot machines.
The 800-slots Casino at Ocean Downs — near Ocean City — brought in about $6 million in August, up 5 percent from a year earlier.
The state's newest gambling site, Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Western Maryland, generated $4 million in August. It opened in May with 558 slot machines and 10 table games.
Together, the casinos brought in $71 million in August, $37 million of which was due to flow to the state via earmarked funds for education, horse racing and other priorities.
The three casinos that were open a year ago generated $22 million more in revenue last month than they did in August 2012, the lottery agency said. That represents a 50 percent increase.
The lion's share came from Maryland Live, owned by the Cordish Cos. and located in Hanover. The casino brought in $53 million all told from both slots and table games that month.
Nearly 1,000 people were in line to play when the casino opened its poker room Aug. 28.
