Lug, a growing brand of bags and accessories popularized by Oprah, opened its first store Friday in BWI Marshall Airport.

Lug has leased a 1,290-square-foot retail space in Concourse D at the airport.

The brand was founded in 2005 by Ami and Jason Richter, who wanted to refresh drab travel bags with “fun, functional and colorful” designs. Its bags attracted the attention of Oprah Winfrey, who highlighted them in the “O List” in O, The Oprah Magazine.

Lug subsequently partnered with QVC, the television shopping channel, to offer the products for sale.

“We are flying high with excitement over our first-ever retail store — and by design, it is in an airport, where we can personally interact with individuals and families to help them travel with style and function to destinations around the world,” Jason Richter said in a statement.

The store features touch-screen kiosks offering consumers an interactive experience to see and feel bags in different colors and prints.
