As Allegiant Air began flying this week to three new markets from Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, Southwest Airlines said it would begin daily flights to San Jose, California, in the fall.
Allegiant started flying Thursday between BWI and Asheville, N.C., and Tulsa, Okla. Flights between BWI and Knoxville, Tenn., begin Friday on the Las Vegas-based airline. The flights will each operate twice weekly and Allegiant is offering promotional fares of $69 to Tulsa, $46 to Asheville and $39 to Knoxville.
Southwest will begin daily flights to San Jose on Nov. 6 with prices starting at $159 one-way.Southwest, based in Dallas, is BWI's largest carrier and recently announced new nonstop service between BWI Marshall and Sacramento, Calif., beginning in August.
New airlines and added service have contributed to growth at BWI. A record of more than 23.8 million passengers flew through the airport in 2015.
