BGE to finish power restoration efforts by Saturday

Baltimore Gas & Electric Co. said it's on track to finish restoring power to all customers affected by Hurricane Irene by Saturday.

The final day of BGE's efforts will focus reconnecting electricity to 5,000 to 10,000 customers who have been without power since Sunday.

Roughly 750,000 people lost power in the storm's aftermath, and BGE had said it would restore power to most customers by Friday evening.

BGE's response has angered some residents and public officials, who questioned the utility's storm preparedness and performance.

By mid-afternoon Friday, about 23,000 customers were still without power. Work was expected to continue until late Friday evening, and outage information was not expected to be updated until then.
