Friday will be Baltimore Gas and Electric Co.'s first Energy Savings Day of the summer, as the week's heat wave pushes into the weekend.
Customers with smart meters who conserve energy between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. will receive a bill credit of $1.25 for every kilowatt-hour saved.
BGE suggests raising the thermostat temperature by a few degrees, drawing the shades, turning off window air conditioning units in parts of the house not in use, and spending time in cooler basements.
Customers who participate in the utility's PeakRewards Air Conditioning program will have their AC compressors turned off for half the time they normally run, in exchange for a bill credit.
Customers enrolled in both the air conditioning and smart energy rewards programs will receive whichever credit is greater.
BGE scheduled the energy savings day because the utility expects increased demand for electricity in the area.
