Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. has given its customer bills a makeover, with new color graphics and charts.

The new bills are designed to help customers better understand how much energy they are using and how much money they owe each month.

"Customers expect simple, useful, accessible information from their service providers, and the monthly bill is our most frequent customer touchpoint," said Rob Biagiotti, BGE vice president of customer operations and chief customer officer, in a statement.

BGE said the design changes are in response to feedback from customers who said they want to better understand their charges and energy use.

In response, new graphics breakdown charges for electricity, gas, and other charges and credits. New bills will also have a line-by-line description of each bill component. Charts will show electric and gas use for the billing period and the past 12 months.

The redesign highlights time-sensitive details — like amount owed and due date — to make them easier to see.

The new bills hit mailboxes and email inboxes this week.
