Zipcar debuts one-way trips between Baltimore, Washington

Zipcar has introduced one-way trips between Baltimore and Washington as a new feature of its service, the car-sharing network announced Tuesday.

The new feature allows drivers to reserve one of more than 20 Zipcar vehicles in the greater Baltimore area on the company's app or online, then choose from more than 200 reserved parking spots in greater Washington where they can leave it. The reservations cost $5 per half hour, which includes gas, maintenance and insurance.

The vehicles, which can be reserved up to 30 minutes in advance, also can be used for one-way travel within the Baltimore area. The company has more than 20 locations in Baltimore where drivers may pick up and drop off the cars.

The destination, which is plugged into the app, also can be updated at the last minute, and the reservation may be extended if a driver decides to continue using the car.

"Our new one-way feature makes it even easier for Baltimore residents to get around without owning a car," said Trevor Hanlon, Zipcar Baltimore general manager, in a statement. "Members can use it to commute to D.C., to spend the afternoon checking out monuments and museums or for short trips around Baltimore without dealing with the stress and uncertainty of finding and paying for parking."

The company first offered its service in Baltimore since 2010, and its fleet here has grown to more than 200 Zipcars in more than 100 locations.
