Discount grocer Aldi will offer store-branded baby products

Discount grocer Aldi, growing in Baltimore, will start selling store-branded baby products.

Discount grocer Aldi is launching its first line of store-branded baby products, which will arrive in stores in August.

The fast growing food retailer has been expanding over the past few years in Baltimore and surrounding counties. The chain last week announced plans to open its 16th Baltimore area store on June 9 in Owings Mills.

The Little Journey baby line will include 50 "affordably priced everyday essentials" such as newborn diapers, training pants, wipes, baby wash and formula, the company said.

"Our Aldi customers spoke, and we listened," said Liz Ruggles, Aldi director of marketing. "With Little Journey we're able to better support and grow with our shoppers and their families."

Aldi runs more than 1,500 stores in 34 states. The grocer is known for selling exclusive discounted brands and keeping its costs and overhead low. The stores typically have small footprints, open carton displays and a 25 cent cart rental system that refunds shoppers' quarters when the cart is returned.
