Discount grocer Aldi is opening a store in Owings Mills on June 9.
The new store on Reisterstown Road will be Aldi's 16th location in the Baltimore area, where the fast growing food retailer has been expanding over the past few years and now has a presence in the city and surrounding counties.
"Our high-value, high-quality model drives interest as does private label popularity and strong loyalty among our customer base," said Jeff Baehr, Aldi's Frederick division vice president, in the announcement.
The new store will feature expanded cooler sections; "healthy tips" in the produce section; "Dietitian's Picks," selected by nutrition experts; a selection of organic produce; and the chain's liveGfree gluten-free product line.
Aldi is known for selling exclusive discounted brands and keeping its costs and overhead low. The stores typically have small footprints, open carton displays and a 25 cent cart rental system that refunds shoppers' quarters when the cart is returned.
Aldi will offer gift certificates of various amounts to the first 100 shoppers in the Owings Mills store on June 9.
