Discount grocer Aldi will reopen its Randallstown store later this month after expanding and remodeling it.
The Liberty Road store, which has been closed for construction since Sept. 12, is being renovated with high ceilings, natural lighting, new signage and environmentally-friendly building materials. The first 100 shoppers in the store Oct. 27 will be given Aldi gift cards.
Aldi is known for selling exclusive discounted store brands and keeping its costs and overhead low. The no-frills stores typically have small footprints, open carton displays and a 25 cent cart-rental system that refunds shoppers' quarters when the cart is returned.
The fast-growing grocer now has a large presence in Baltimore and the surrounding counties. Aldi opened its 16th Baltimore area store in June on Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills and is planning a store in Bel Air at the site of the former Mars in the Bel Air Plaza on Route 1.
