Continuing its westward push, Under Armour is significantly expanding its office space in San Francisco.
The Baltimore brand said Wednesday it recently signed a lease for a five-story building in the tech-friendly SOMA (South of Market) area of the city, boosting its San Francisco offices from 11,000 square feet to 50,000 square feet.
The architecture firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson is designing the space. The firm is the master plan architect for Under Armour's new Port Covington headquarters. The San Francisco building is expected to be ready early next year.
Under Armour — which also been expanding its presence in Nike's home state of Oregon — is seeking to increase its visibility in the west. It has signed outfitting deals with UCLA, Cal-Berkeley, Hawaii and Utah.
"Under Armour's expanded footprint in San Francisco provides the brand with the opportunity to support the company's aggressive growth plans, including access to best-in-class tech talent in the Bay Area and reinforces UA's commitment to Connected Fitness," said Neil Jurgens, Under Armour vice president of corporate real estate.
Under Armour currently has a San Francisco office in the headquarters of My Fitness Pal, which the company acquired in 2015.
