Under Armour teams up with Residence Inn on digital running routes for guests

Under Armour is teaming up with Residence Inn by Marriott with a digital fitness tracking program for guests.

Guests can access customized, two-mile or longer running routes for any of the hotel's 700 locations worldwide through Under Armour's MapMyFitness app.

The idea is to help guests at the extended stay properties make the most of workouts while on the road. Routes are designed to direct runners to the local sights and landmarks.

A New York City route, for instance, takes runners past the new One World Trade Center, the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House in Battery Park. A Chicago route winds through the business district and Millennium Park.

The lodging company sees the partnership as a way to offer guests another amenity, Diane Mayer, vice president and global brand manager of Residence Inn, said in the announcement.

Under Armour has been investing heavily in digital fitness and building a community of app and website users. The MapMyFitness app can be downloaded on iOS and Android devices.

"Through this partnership and our fitness tracking apps and websites, we can provide personalized workout recommendations to Residence Inn guests, encouraging them to stay active even while traveling," said Warren Kay, the brand's vice president of advertising for Under Armour Connected Fitness.
