The NFL's MVP dressed up as himself Sunday before his Carolina Panthers took on and beat the Arizona Cardinals. But with a nod to today's festivities, the quarterback sported custom-made "Nightmare" Under Armour cleats during pregame warm-ups.
"Check out Cam's SPOoOooky kicks," the Carolina "Pumpkins" tweeted.
The custom, limited edition C1N cleats, in a red and black skull motif, are not available at stores in the "Nightmare" design, Under Armour said.
But a retail version of the signature cleat Newton has worn on the field since September will hit stores in new colors next March. The C1N MC cleat is designed to be lightweight with "second-skin support" and will sell for for $160.
Under Armour has been chasing larger rival Nike in the sports footwear category, and sales have soared thanks to star athletes such as Newton and NBA basketball MVP Stephen Curry. Sales of footwear jumped 42 percent to $279 million in the company's most recent quarter, driven by strong growth in running and basketball shoes.
Newton stars in a new Under Armour Snapchat game that's a spinnoff of the Baltimore athletic brand's footwear marketing campaign "It Comes From Below."
