Ray Astor informed me August commemorates the 69th anniversary of several important historical events from World War II. August is Peace Month. On Aug. 6, 1945, the first atomic bomb was dropped upon Hiroshima, Japan followed by a second atomic bomb dropped upon Nagasaki, Aug. 9, 1945. By Aug. 14, 1945, Japan had surrendered. August 15 is VJ Day, that is Victory in Japan Day. On Sept. 2, 1945, Gen. Douglas MacArthur received the Japanese delegation to sign the official papers of surrender on the USS Missouri. Thus, ended World War II. Thank you, to all our World War II veterans.
