Police seek man who stole shopper's wallet at Abingdon Walmart

The Harford County Sheriff's Office is asking the public's help in identifying a person believed to be responsible for a recent theft of a wallet from a shopper at the Abingdon Walmart.

The victim was at the Walmart on Constant Friendship Boulevard on July 2 when a man asked her to help him get something from a shelf, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release Friday. When she finished helping the man, she realized her wallet had been stolen from her purse.

The victim's credit cards were used at the Abingdon Target later that morning, the Sheriff's Office said.

Several other victims have come forward since the July 2 theft, according to the sheriff's office, which is working with area Target stores as part of its investigation.

Detectives believe the suspect is using the stolen credit cards to buy Target gift cards and using them primarily in Target stores in Prince George's and Charles counties.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have been a victim of a similar theft to contact them or if they have any further information on the thefts.

The suspected thief was identified on the store's camera surveillance system, as was the vehicle he is believed to have been driving.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspects in this case is asked to call Detective Yeagy of the Harford County Sheriff's Office at 410-612-1718. All information will be kept confidential.
