Adam Thompson Run raises $25,000 for Harford nursing scholarships

More than 300 people participated in Saturday morning's third annual Adam Thompson 5K Run/Walk at Harford Community College.

The race, conducted on a USA Track and Field certified course, raised $25,000 to benefit nursing scholarships and honored the memory of Adam Thompson, a first-year HCC student who was killed in an automobile accident in 2011.

The overall male winner was Tyler Muse, who completed the race in 16:44.5. Jan Goralski was the top female runner with a time of 23:24.1.

The Adam Thompson Memorial Nursing Scholarship at Harford Community College and The Adam Thompson Memorial Education Scholarship at University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health support students attending Harford Community College.

Saturday's top fundraising team was Behavioral Heath, UM, HMH, which raised $2,000.

Many activities took place before and after the race, including ping-pong, corn hole and face painting. Exhibitor's included University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health's HealthLink, Elite Spine, Freedom Federal Credit Union, Lorien Health Systems, Lincare, Planet Fitness and the Maryland Insurance Administration.

A raffle was held featuring a grill donated by Home Depot, a Planet Fitness bike and wine basket. Also on hand were the Orioles Bird, Poe from the Ravens, the Chick-fil-A cow and Screech, the HCC owl mascot.

The race was hosted by the Thompson Family, Harford Community College Foundation and The Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation.

"My thanks to everyone involved, particularly the Harford Community College Foundation, The Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation and our sponsors for helping us raise $25,000 for scholarships," said Pat Thompson, Adam's mother, a nursing instructor at HCC for seven years and a team member at Upper Chesapeake Health for 29. "Many families came out to support the walk. It was a great day, and I am so very appreciative of everyone involved."
