Free homecoming dresses available at fashion show for Harford girls Sunday

A special fashion show coming up at The Arena Club near Bel Air Sunday features formal dresses for high school age girls to wear to homecoming and similar activities.

Amber Kreisel is a young Bel Air woman who founded In The Glow, a nonprofit movement geared toward empowering young women and building a healthy self-esteem. Kreisel's first campaign, Dress Your Glow, has been to collect new and gently used special occasion dresses to donate to girls in high school.

In just a few months, she has collected more than 900 dresses, many brand-new with tags, to donate to girls, with the idea that they will then pay it forward and return the dress for another girl to use when they are finished. In The Glow's dress donation is not based on financial need.

Kreisel also has gathered shoes and jewelry, and has coordinated with hair salons and make-up services that are donating services to young girls.

The donation is based on the premise of doing something kind for another young woman in the community and paying forward the blessing to someone else.

On Sunday, Sept. 22, The Arena Cub, 2304 Churchville Road, is providing use of their indoor field from 1 to 4 p.m. for In The Glow to hold a fashion show for girls to preview many of the dresses, try them on and take them home – at no charge. The only cost associated with the event is a $5 admission, proceeds of which will go 100 percent to In The Glow. Families – moms, dads, etc. – are also invited to the show.

Kreisel and her associates say the fashion show will help to showcase the dresses to get them in the hands of girls, just in time for homecoming. In The Glow does not assess need. The dresses are for any young women who want to pay it forward and return the favor for someone else.

In addition to the fashion show, Sunday's event will feature Body Jam dance demonstrations to teach girls moves that they will be able to take to their homecoming dances and self-defense demonstrations. Guest speaker Wendy Wright of "The Wright Fit" will talk about finding the appropriate style dress for body types. There will be refreshments from Texas Roadhouse and many vendors.
