Two small businesses in Harford County developed a creative way to use their resources to support a non-profit in Harford County. As they work together to make Harford County a better place, these women prove that everyone can make a difference.
Ewenique Yarns owner Maggie Jackovitz and Kelly's Hair Design owner Kelly Casalena have come up with a "ewenique" way to give back to the community. Jackovitz and Casalena decided to work together to support SARC in its mission to help victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse and stalking live a life free from abuse and fear. To show their support, Ewenique Yarns generously discounted yarns to Kelly's Hair Design so that Casalena and her entire staff could knit cowls and scarves for the women at SARC. Along with the donation of hand-knit items, Ewenique Yarns presented SARC with a check earlier this year, which included the monies from the yarn bought by Kelly's Hair Design as well as a donation of Jackovitz's "finishing fees" over the 2012 Christmas season.
SARC has served the Harford County Community for 35 years by offering counseling services, crisis intervention, a 28-bed safe house, hospital companions, a 24-hour help line, a food pantry, legal advocacy and representation as well as community outreach. These programs are available to SARC clients free of charge. SARC uses support from the community to continue serving men, women and children who have been affected by domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse or stalking.
