Letter: New Jersey school band grateful to Atholton High

The Westfield Marching Band Parents Association would like to extend our warmest thanks to the staff, parents and students of Atholton High School in Columbia.

The recent hurricane and snowstorm in New Jersey kept the WHS Band from practicing in the lead-up to their most crucial performances of the season, the National Championship in Annapolis and the New Jersey State Championship. By opening their facilities, striping the field, providing water, snacks and coffee for the band and parents and staff, the school provided a huge boost to the band.

Allowing the students to rehearse not only provided them with confidence going into their performances, but also inspired them by making them feel important and welcome far from home. Many parents, students and band staff, gave up their Saturday morning for our kids. Band Director Eric Posner, Drum Majors Maddie Jones and Katie Schlueter, booster parents John and Moira Monk and band members Gabulle Ponniah, Jack Monk and Emily Franke all were on hand to welcome and care for our children.

The Atholton High School community will always have a friend in Westfield, N.J. Someday, we hope to repay your kindness and hospitality.
