Marriotts Ridge won the Frederick Cup High School Tournament during the preseason, defeating LaPlata in the championship game.

In the first county league game of the season, Atholton picked up a convincing 7-2 victory over River Hill Nov. 14 at the Gardens Ice House, in Laurel. The Raiders won despite being outshot, 28-15.

Atholton made the most of the chances it did get, getting goals from Derek Potter (two), Evan Davis (two), Zach Michels, Eliot Tarash and Avery Shepherd. The team also got assists from Shepherd (two), Michels, Davis, Brandon Potter, Jake Mills and Matt Haney. Raiders' goalie Taylor Abell made 26 saves.

In the loss, River Hill got its goals from Jared Rosburg and Matthew Gray, with Zach Lyons picking up a pair of assists. Will Barrett finished with eight saves in net for the Hawks.

Long Reach picked up a shutout victory over Centennial, 8-0. The Lightning goals were scored by Jansen Earle (four goals, one assist), Peter Dudley (two goals), Robby Ouellette (one goal, two assists) and Dominic Sesto (one goal). Jeff Dudley also chipped in with two assists. Josh Fleming made 13 saves in net for Long Reach.

Centennial goalie Dan Pomeranz faced 40 shots and turned away 32 of them.

In a non-conference game, Glenelg Country played Spalding to a 7-7 tie.
